Sometimes a candidate's reflections after an election can be interesting. Just as often, the spouse's reflections are even more interesting.

That's certainly the case with a long and thoughtful piece penned by Felicity Ross, wife of erstwhile Democratic gubernatorial contender Alec Ross, which appeared Monday on the website Thrive Global. It's called "How Campaigning Taught Our Family About Hard Work and Resilience."

The piece is by turns surprising and poignant. It takes the reader behind the scenes in how a family decides to enter a political race. It talks about her family's expectations before Ross joined the Democratic primary and then the reality of life on the campaign trail. She referred herself and her spouse as the "macro/micro couple."

Ross was one of the most interesting candidates in the Democratic gubernatorial primary. His wife, a Baltimore City school teacher who we barely got to know, proves herself to be one of the state's most interesting political spouses. It will be fun to see their next act.
