Hoyer Expected Back on the Hill This Week Following a Bout With Pneumonia

U.S. Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md., 5th) is home from the hospital, following a bout with pneumonia.

Hoyer, 79, was admitted to George Washington University Hospital in the District on July 3, his spokeswoman, Katie Grant, told reporters.

After treatment with antibiotics and several days of rest, he was released.

“Mr. Hoyer went home from the hospital this weekend,” Grant said on Monday. “He thanks everyone for their well wishes and will be back on the Hill this week.”

Hoyer, who has represented Southern Maryland’s 5th District since 1981, serves as House minority whip.

He is the third member of the Maryland House delegation to confront a health issue in recent weeks.

U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown, 56, suffered a minor stroke in May, shortly after attending funeral services for Baltimore County Executive Kevin B. Kamenetz.

First elected in 2016, Brown represents the state’s 4th congressional district, which covers parts of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties.

Baltimore Democrat Elijah Cummings spent 10 weeks away from the Capitol earlier this year after undergoing surgery to treat a knee infection. He was diagnosed late last year. He returned to the Hill in April, following rehabilitation.
