Rep. Harris Joins GOP Letter Calling for Prosecution of Hillary Clinton, Comey

Rep. Andrew P. Harris (R-Md.) has joined 10 other House Republicans calling on U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to prosecute former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey and other law enforcement officials for a range of alleged crimes designed to shield Clinton from any investigation into her use of a private email server.

In a letter to Sessions, FBI Director Christopher Wray and John Huber, the U.S. attorney for Utah, the lawmakers -- most of whom are members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus -- suggest there was a widespread conspiracy of law enforcement officials to protect Clinton.

"We are especially mindful of the dissimilar degrees of zealousness that has marked the investigations of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, respectively," they write. "Because we believe that those in positions of high authority should be treated the same as every other American, we want to be sure that the potential violations of law outlined below are vetted appropriately."

In addition to Clinton and Comey, the Republicans' letter targets former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, among others.

The letter was generated by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), who is competing in a Republican primary for governor of the Sunshine State. The other signatories, besides Harris, were: Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Dave Brat of Virginia, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Paul Gosar of Arizona, Jody Hice of Georgia, Todd Rokita of Indiana (who is competing in a competitive Senate primary), Claudia Tenney of New York, and Ted Yoho of Florida.

The letter comes amid media reports Thursday that two leaders of the Freedom Caucus, Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), met with Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein this week, pressing him to provide more documents about the government's now-shuttered investigation into Clinton's email server.
